AFRICANS, PLEASE REMEMBER

AFRICANS, PLEASE REMEMBER

A TAPAM Poetic Reflection

Africans, please remember —

Before the map was divided, before the borders were inked in foreign tongues, before our story was footnoted in borrowed books — we were a people of rhythm and reason.

Remember when the drum was not noise, but communication. When the river was not a resource, but a relative. When leadership was not possession, but stewardship.

Remember that long before conquest, we engineered cities beneath the sun of Timbuktu, charted the Nile through the wisdom of Nubia, and raised pyramids that still question time in Egypt.

Africans, please remember —

We were never empty. We were interrupted.

They renamed our lands, reframed our gods, repackaged our genius — and sold it back to us as civilisation.

But civilisation is not a suit. It is not an accent. It is not approval from distant capitals.

Civilisation is memory with responsibility. It is identity with discipline. It is unity without uniformity.

Remember the markets of mothers, the councils of elders, the codes of warriors who fought not for domination, but for dignity.

Remember that our diversity was not division — it was design.

Africans, please remember —

The future does not begin in imitation. It begins in restoration.

Restore confidence. Restore culture. Restore courage.

Let our education teach truth. Let our politics serve people. Let our wealth circulate among our own.

Let the child in Lagos, Nairobi, Accra, and Dakar grow knowing they descend not from absence — but from brilliance.

Africans, please remember —

We are not rising for the first time. We are remembering who we have always been.

And remembrance is the beginning of awakening.
